We’re proud to be featured by Change Inc. for our innovative floating wind turbine and the next phase of testing.
Highlights include:
- Cost efficiency: These turbines are projected to cost roughly one third less than conventional offshore turbines while delivering comparable or better performance.
- Storm resilience: Thanks to the tilting rotor and tower design, the turbines can operate in winds up to 70 m/s (equivalent to strong storms), shifting into a “helicopter-mode” to reduce loads while continuing power production.
- Reduced wake loss & higher power density: The tilted rotor reduces wake-effect losses, meaning turbines can be placed more densely in a wind farm, boosting electricity generation per area.
Testing with 10 prototypes is underway in Friesland (onshore) and at Oostvoorne (floating), with partners including TNO, MARIN, Nidec, We4Ce, Coastruction, and VDL.
Looking forward, we aim to bring our first commercial-scale, 4 MW floating turbine to market by 2028-29, with rotor diameters of ~120 m, tower height of ~150 m, capable of powering up to 5,000 households. Beyond that, there are plans to scale up further (e.g. 15 MW / 240 m rotor) pending investment and regulatory support.
